What is the Common Conditions Service?

The Common Conditions Service is a new Service which allows community Pharmacists to provide advice on, and prescribe medications for a list of 8 common conditions.

The eight common conditions included in this service are:

– The Pharmacist will need to carry out a consultation with the patient in each case. Each consultation, and any prescribing that is carried out following that consultation, will be carried out in accordance with HSE-approved protocols.

– The Pharmacist will charge a fee for any consultations carried out under this service. At Morgan’s Medical Hall, this fee will be 30 euros per consultation.

– In certain situations it may not be clinically appropriate for the Pharmacist to prescribe any medications under this service. In such cases, the Pharmacist may instead recommend further referral to a GP or other healthcare services.

How do I avail of the Common Conditions Service at Morgan’s Medical Hall?

Under rules by which the new scheme will be operated, there are limitations to the circumstances in which the Pharmacist can issue a prescription. Because of this, it is possible that scenarios may arise whereby the Pharmacist, having completed a consultation under the scheme, may inform the Patient that they will need to make an appointment with their GP for further treatment.

In such a case the Pharmacist Consultation fee for the service would still apply.

In order to minimise the chances of such situations occurring, and to save time for both the patient and the Pharmacist, Morgan’s Medical Hall plan to run the service according to a simple 4- step process.

The 4 steps of this process are as follows:

Step 1. If you think that you require treatment for any of the common conditions involved, please click on the individual condition in the list above. You will then be taken to a page that provides more information about that particular condition.

Step 2. Underneath the information will be a link to a questionnaire. Click on the link and fill out the questionnaire that it directs you to.

Step 3. Once you have submitted the completed questionnaire, please contact us at Morgan’s Medical Hall to let us know that you have done so. You can either phone us on 059-9151313, or whattsapp us on 089-9834610 (in which case a Pharmacist will call you back).

Step 4. The Pharmacist will then let you know whether or not it would be worthwhile coming in to the Pharmacy for a full consultation under the new Service. If the Pharmacist informs you that you don’t qualify for the service, or that it would be better to contact your GP or emergency department, then no Pharmacy fee will apply.
